Namaste
A journey shaped by tradition, curiosity, and continued learning
I’m Shruti Abhishek, an Indian classical dancer trained in Bharatanatyam, shaped by years of learning in Mumbai and continued practice in the Bay Area. My work is rooted in tradition, yet staying curious about how dance evolves with time, place, and people.
Alongside my solo work, I’m a Principal Dancer, Creative Coach, and Rehearsal Director with Nava Dance Theatre. I’m always learning—about the body, history, culture, and how movement can hold many stories at once.
Dance School
Kshetram School of Dance
Teching the Art, One Adavu at a Time
Founded in 2018, Kshetram is my dance school based in Livermore and Pleasanton, CA. It’s an intergenerational space where children learn Bharatanatyam through a structured, thoughtful seven-year curriculum.
Here, students build discipline, confidence, and curiosity—learning not just steps, but rhythm, recitation, and the joy of moving with intention.
Dance Community
Where Artists, Stories, and Communities Meet
Community is at the heart of my practice. As an immigrant artist, finding and building creative connections has been deeply meaningful.
I curate The Art Echoes Series for kids in the East Bay and co-curate two Bay Area festivals—Varnam Salon and When Eyes Speak—creating spaces for artists to share, collaborate, and be seen.
Performances
Form, personal voice, and evolving expression
My performance journey includes solo, duet, and ensemble work across India, Europe, and the U.S. From traditional Margams to interdisciplinary productions, my work explores mythology, relationships, identity, and the many layers of Bharatanatyam.
I regularly perform with Nava Dance Theatre and have toured extensively with Sankhya Dance Company.
