Educational Approach
My educational approach involves imparting a sense of discipline and tranquility to children by teaching them art forms with a structured system. Even though dance training is rigorous, it provides confidence and the freedom to explore oneself over time. The gradual assimilation of these values into a child's life is a key aspect of my teaching approach. My goal is to help children become movement artists in their own unique way.
As I continue to learn the various layers of this art form, I encourage my students to ask questions, criticize, and comment. The curriculum is designed as a seven-year program. During the first two years, children learn the basic steps of Bharatanatyam, known as adavus. From year 3 onwards, they begin learning the pieces set to music. Additionally, every year, they learn recitations called slokas from the Abhinayadarpana, rhythm patterns known as Talam, and choreography techniques.
Performance Opportunity
Kshetram arranges a children's show once every 1.5 to 2 years. In the meantime, if a student desires to take part in performances outside of the school, the teacher will provide additional rehearsals to assist with the performance.
